Run rate calculator
Calculate a cricket run rate (runs per over) from runs and overs, using cricket overs notation like 19.4.
Formula
Run rate = runs ÷ overs, where overs are converted from cricket notation to balls first: run rate = runs × 6 ÷ balls.
Worked examples
- Zimbabwe scored 344 in 20 overs on 23 Oct 2024, the highest men's T20I total in the data: 344 × 6 ÷ 120 balls = 17.20 runs per over.
- 150 runs in 19.4 overs: 19.4 overs = 118 balls, so 150 × 6 ÷ 118 = 7.63.
- 300 runs in 50 overs = 6.00 per over.
How it works
Run rate is the average number of runs scored per over. It is used for whole innings, phases such as the powerplay, and tournament net run rate.
Because an over has six balls, 19.4 overs is not 19.4 in decimal terms; it is 19 and two-thirds overs (118 balls). The calculator handles this for you.
Frequently asked questions
